Happy Birthday Bestie!

Me and my Bestie. It is her birthday today. What I wouldn't give to be there in person, to hand her a latte, give her a hug and wish her happy birthday. The extent to which I miss her presence in my life has touched every part of me. Her friendship means so much to me that it is impossible to express with just words. So instead, I will just say lots of love and all my best wishes for your birthday and beyond!

Jenny in the Box

A heck of a lot more fun than a Jack in the Box! This Jenny in the Box also comes with wine!

Playing Footsies

My foot tattoo: while not exactly what I wanted, and I do plan on adding to it someday to make it EXACTLY as I thought it should, it has grown on me. I love the flower, it is beautiful and pink and lovely. I chose the lily because my Nanny's name was Lillian (R's middle name) and to me, the lily signifies family and togetherness and enduring the odds. The vines are what I wanted different. I expected more curl, more cursive flow to them. I do love the D and the R, my children's initials. Also, when I look at my tattoo, I am reminded of my Bestie with whom I got it done with, who held my hand through the EXCRUCIATING pain. OMG it HURT!

Moffat

"It's hard to talk about the importance of an imaginary hero. But heroes are important. Heroes tell us something about ourselves. History books tell us who we used to be, documentaries tell us who we are right now but heroes tell us who we want to be. And a lot of our heroes depress me. But you know, when they made this particular hero, they didn't give him a gun, they gave him a screwdriver to fix things. They didn't give him a tank or a warship or an X-wing fighter, they gave him a callbox from which you can call for help. And they didn't give him a superpower or pointy ears or a heat ray. They gave him an extra heart. They gave him two hearts. And that's an extraordinary thing. There will never come a time where we don't need a hero like Doctor Who."

Blowing Snow

So I waited at the bus stop to go visit Nicole for over 45 minutes. The 94 is supposed to arrive every 15 minutes.... Feet and hands are numb. This is the pic I snapped at the bus stop. Couldn't even see across the road. And no, this pic is NOT in black and white! I have sad that I don't get to spend time with Nicole this week :'(

Food?

So this morning, like all mornings, I wake up and check Facebook to see if anything earth shattering has happened to my friends while I slept. The biggest surprise was a new guinea pig (very cute!). I did, however, click on a link from Upworth about ending famine in third worlds. The statistics about child starvation was horrifying, especially as I watch my kids eat their breakfast. Also, turns out, that I have no milk for my coffee :-( Off to the grocery store where I happen to take a minute to snap this pic while I was thinking about that Upworthy video. I think that it is true that there is enough food in the world to make sure that everyone is fed, but the distribution of food is sorely skewed in favour of the upper to middle class. It is hard for me to look at this picture, see all of this wealth, and realize that right now there are people literally starving to death as I type this on my fancy laptop. I think it is time for a change. At least for myself and my family.

RRROOOOOAAAAARRRRRRR!!!!!

Such a pretty Dragon Fruit! I love the extra bright pink and the cookies and cream looking center. Turns out you don't eat the pink flesh. And the white and black flesh is kinda really tasteless... Such a pretty fruit with such little taste to show for it. So is life.

The "New" Reading Box

In an effort to encourage reading, mostly on my daughters part, I borrowed an idea from Marco and made a Reading Box. It isn't filled with much, just some Dollarama items like toys and pretty decorations and some candy. Inspiration struck me this weekend while out looking at more items for the box: VOUCHERS!
New to the box this week are little vouchers taped to the lid that say things like: extra 15 minutes of electronic time next week, playdate with two friends, bake and decorate cupcakes with Mama, pick of movie at the Redbox next Friday, etc etc.
The kids love this idea and it has been a total success and has revitalized the flagging Reading Box. Dorian is having a playdate with a friend tonight and Rowan picked a 1/2 voucher for a sleepover.
YAY FOR READING!

Thursday 23 January 2014

These are a few of my favorite things!

My TARDIS coffee mug (filled with coffee!) - given to me by Erin. This is by far my most favorite mug ever! If combines my two loves of Doctor Who and coffee!

My pink fluffy pillow - given to me by my children. On the weeks they are away, I snuggle this and think of them, and they don't seem so far away.

My Kindle - given to me by Marco. My love of reading began early on and has never diminished. The gift of reading is something special that I will always cherish.

My Magic Bag - given to me by Michele. This is my constant companion. In the microwave for three and a half minutes and my bed is warm and snuggly. Sometimes I just heat it up and carry it around and then it is almost like Michele is back here with me. The smell of the heated Magic Bag has become my favorite scent which never fails to comfort me and make me smile thinking of her.

Gaming Blister

Today I played the Sims 3 for the third evening in a row. Although I have been having a hard time with the game working properly, it is still one of my favorites. It is telling how little time I have been playing computer games by the development of this Gaming Blister where I used to have a WoW callous. My name is Aimee and I have been WoW free for six months.

Egg Man!

Like Spoon Man only better! I was making hard boiled eggs for the kids for their lunches when the top cracked during the boil. When I took it out I showed Rowan and she immediately said "He has hair!" and Egg man was born.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOM BAKER!

Why?! Why Bunny?! WHY!?!?

There is a cute family of bunnies that live on my street. I like to think of them as Mama Bunny, Papa Bunny and all their little Baby Bunnies. I like the bunnies. Unfortunately, Eddie does not. The mailman, visitors,  squirrels, and people dropping off fliers can come to the door and Eddie is happy to see them. But Eddie HATES the bunnies. When he sees them he practically froths at the mouth in his aggressive need to go outside and murder the bunnies. I feel that this winter they are retaliating against Eddies anger by peeing. Yes. Peeing. Each morning I wake up there is a cute trail of bunny prints leading to my bottom step whereupon there is always a large puddle of frozen pee. Thank you bunnies....

Rudolph!

Is it just me or does his eye seem to say "help! Get this freak with a camera away from me!"

Friday 17 January 2014

Doctor Who Marathon!

Day two of the Doctor Who marathon! Erin and I ordered pizza, pigged out on popcorn and chips and had some lovely wine. I also got to try tequila shots for the first time! Salt, tequila, lemon = DELISH! But I think the best part of the entire evening was spending time with Erin just talking. <3

Swim to Survive!

She was the first to jump off the diving board in her class. When she hesitated at the last moment her entire class stood behind her and started chanting her name. She radiated with happiness and took off into flight!

TARDIS coffee!

Although this photo is not technically taken by me, I love this picture of my awesome mug!

Monday 13 January 2014

Eddie the Spaghetti

Although Eddie may look very sad and lonely here, let me assure you that he gets massive amounts of pets and cuddles. This is just his usual look, which perpetuates the whole massive cuddles syndrome.

The picture below is for my bestie. She likes to torture my poor Eddie. He did not like the socks. Socks are bad. Socks also do not stay on longer than three seconds of flailing about.

Red for the Win!

Uncle Craigo joined the family today for a rousing game of Carcassone. GO RED!

The Icy Evergreen

Sparkly, glittery ice. So beautiful and yet so dangerous. Three inches of ice now covers all exposed surfaces outside making my families foray into the winter more like skating than walking.

Feeling the Love

Kisses for you! And kisses for you! And kisses for you! Kisses for everyone!

"Get outta my face woman! Can't you see I am trying to sleep here??"

This is my Honey Bunny Bear Onyx. I try not to look too closely and notice all the gray fur that is starting to spread all over his snuggly body. Or the fact that he is starting to move so much slower. Or how he spends almost all his time sleeping. In just over a month, Onyx will be hitting the big eighteen. I can hardly remember a time when he wasn't with me.

Christmas is Over

Christmas is gone and done, tree has been picked up from the end of the driveway. I am not sure if my house looks cleaner or just sadder?

Tuesday 7 January 2014

Minecraft!

My baby's first foray into online multiplayer games and voice chat! I am so proud!!!! I feel like I have passed my geek genes on to the next generation ;-)

Monday 6 January 2014

Snow Day!

With buses canceled, today was an extra last bonus day of Christmas vacation. Jammed packed with icy outside fun, minecraft, movies, boardgames and Christmas treats! Thank you mother nature for giving us one last day before school starts up again :-D

Sunday 5 January 2014

Goodbye Christmas

Tomorrow I pick off all the ornaments, pull down all the tinsel, and throw off Christmas. As I sit here in the dark for the last time, watching the lights twinkle and sparkle I can't help thinking that life is just like this. Things and people are pretty and beautiful and when we are done with them, we throw it away.

Saturday 4 January 2014

Happy Birthday Erin!

So the night was filled with tears, commiseration, and Erin might not have exactly made it to the party, but I think a good time was had by all? Maybe???

Reign Of FIRE!

Today I am thankful for wonderful friends that are giving of their time and energy just to be close when they know that a bad day is being had.

Words to Live By

I am going to try my best to brand these words onto my life! How telling is it that these words inspire yet terrify me?

Wednesday 1 January 2014

New Year! Where is the New Me?

New year, but it looks like the same old me. Many resolutions fill my mind: be a better mother, be more present, become proactive, become active! Instead of looking back, I think am more content to be thankful for what I have in the here and now: wonderful kids, great friends and family and the possibilities that lay before me.

Welcome 2014, may you be kinder than 2013!
