Call Me the Bird Rescuer!

On a whim (we are trying to leave the baby birds alone as much as possible) I decided to go out and check the nest, see if the third baby had hatched. When I got to my play structure, I noticed that one of the baby birds had fallen out of the nest and was laying on the play structure (about two feet below the nest). I checked to make sure he was still breathing, then scooped him up and put him back in the nest. Hopefully Mama bird will look after him! I googled, and yes, I did the right thing. Apparently the myth that everyone is always told, never touch a baby bird or its mother wont accept it, is just that. A myth. Google says that birds actually have a really poor sense of smell and putting a nestling (no feathers) baby back in its nest is the best thing. I am the best human being on the PLANET! I saved a baby!

P.S. - the one that I saved is the left most baby!

The Death Watch is On

Welp, two of the three eggs have now hatched. In less than a week I predict a mysterious disappearance of baby birds by way of cat.

The Oncoming Storm

I spent a large portion of time watching a storm yesterday and listening to the sound of the hail battering against my windows. It's funny how storms can make me feel so isolated and alone, minuscule in this giant world.

Sunny time fun for Eddie. Three seconds before this pic, all three animals were curled up, enjoying the sun. The second Onyx and Kismet saw the camera coming they ran in the opposite direction. Apparently Eddie is slow on the uptake.

Fun Filled Saturday!

We had an awesome afternoon with Nicole and her daughter at the Tulip Festival! The flowers were beautiful but Rowan had more fun running around and Dorian had more fun having a sword fighting lesson. Afterwards we headed to the Biggs' place were we played board games, cuddled their kitten and had a lovely supper! Thankful for good friends and happy family.

Just having fun goofing around. It wasn't until I put the photo up here that I realized it looks like my punk rocker son is smoking. It is a lolipop!

A Letter of Apology

It seemed like whatever could go wrong yesterday, it did. The sassy attitudes from BOTH kids, the not listening, the doing things I specifically said not to do.... it just went on and on and on till I reached the end of my rope, curled up with my computer and told the kids I needed ten minutes of quiet. At the end of ten minutes, Rowan and Dorian handed me a coffee and this letter. It reads:

"Im soree that this day is nat gwing os well So I wat to giv you tirs From Dorian and Rowan to Mama."

Omelette Anyone?

Once again the robins have laid eggs in the nest in the play structure I was about to sell..... Even after the kids getting hyper and dancing around the nest, the birdies have not abandoned it. Each year the same pair of robins lay eggs. And each year, once the eggs hatch, one day we find a bunch of fluff, a battered nest on the ground and no baby birds. No matter how many times I tell the kids that a neighborhood cat will probably eat them, their excitement cannot be diminished.

Exterminate!

Introducing the newest member of our family! Freddy the Dalek! Freddy likes hugs, cuddling and sitting down with the family to have dinner. Last year when I took the kids to Comic-Con, Rowan searched all over looking for a plushie Dalek but they were all sold out :-( This year, though I didn't have the kids for Comic-Con, as soon as I saw this guy, I knew I had to get it for Rowan. Dorian got a minecraft sword which he is in love with swinging about.

Did I mention he talks? "You would make a good Dalek!" "Exterminate!"

The Family That Cosplays Together....

Every time a couple walked past with a baby I would shake my head and turn to Katie: "What a wasted opportunity! There are so many baby specific cosplays that you can only do for a finite amount of time! If that was ME, I would totally be David Bowie and rock out the Labrynth look!"

Me and Katie at Comic-Con

Katie was a wonderful escort to Comic-Con! I had such fun with her and I hope she had fun with me too. It was a little sad that she didn't make it to the last day, I hope she gets over the "blahs" soon!!! Thank you Katie for being so awesome!

My Best Moment of Comic-Con

The picture does not do the man justice! Katie and I were fourth row from the front in the center, I was so excited to see Mr Edward James Olmos!!!! The best moment came when he was explaining why it was so important to his heritage to see people like himself on tv when he talked about being asked to speak at the United Nations about the fate of the world. There is no black rice, on asian race, no latino race, no caucassion race. There is but one race and that is the human race. And then! AND THEN! While everyone is cheering Admiral Adama yells out "So say we all!" and the crowd goes nuts (myself included!) and we chant three more times after him SO SAY WE ALL!!!! I got goosebumps and couldn't top my excitement. I think Katie might have held me down at this point. It was AWESOME! Best moment of the Con hands down!

Cosplay Light

So Thursday I woke up and realized that I could totally pull off River Song... Just a little different than last year. I borrowed this wonderful jacket from Nicole and I found these jeans and AWESOME boots (better pics of the boots to come!) at VVBoutique. I had the holster, gun and diary from last year, all courtesy of my bestest Bestie of all times! All pulled together I have an understated cosplay of River Song from the episode The Impossible Astronaut.

Nostalgia

Oohhh look! I don't post for a few days and then I double post in one day! What is that about?! I decided to go nostalgic and remember what fun my Bestie and I had getting my River Song cosplay together last year and I went and rag-rolled my hair. Do I look like I am crying? Yeah, cause I am.

The Remains

Last year at this time I was so giddy I couldn't contain myself. I didn't sleep a wink. I was going to 

Comic-Con for the first time with my Bestie and my boyfriend. Now the things that brought my so much joy last year are tucked away in a little drawer that when I am feeling particularly lonely I pull out, cry my tears and remember what it was like to actually hug my Bestie.

Hyperbole

It seems the author of this book and I have the same abilities to cope. Which is none. Thank you Steve for lending this to me yesterday and for the apple that was my lunch!

Pathfinders

Today was pathfinders day. I was in a crappy mood after such a bad week, my kids were totally loud and interrupting and Nathaniel got sick. We didn`t actually accomplish anything and I need to apologize to everyone for my bad mood. Boo to today.

Dorian`s Pork Tenderloin!

Dorian made everyone dinner! He made his own herb rub for the tenderloin and it was delicious! The loaded potato and broccoli was pretty good too!
